When Do You Really Need A Warehouse Control System?
In the past few years, companies have implemented various cost reduction measures to remain profitable including reducing the number of employees. Now your warehouse or distribution center must meet corporate goals with fewer resources. That means making your operation more efficient.
One way to accomplish that is to enhance your IT infrastructure. You may be tempted
to put off purchasing additional software to save money, but can you afford the delay? The answer depends on the level of efficiency you are currently achieving with your warehouse management system.
Key signs that you need a warehouse control system:
It takes too long to process an order,
You cannot handle the order volume during peak times,
Returns are increasing,
There are connectivity problems with your remote system,
You are losing market share, or
You are creating backorders when the product is in stock.
"A cost-effective approach is to implement a warehouse control system," states Rich Hite, President of QC Software (http://www.qcsoftware.com), a leading provider of software solutions for the material handling industry. "QC Software offers a flexible and cross-platform solution that is tailored to the customer's needs. With our modular architecture, you can implement one application and add other applications later on as needed. Our flexible
technology provides quick integration with internal and external systems and accommodates changes to the customer's operation. Replacing or frequently modifying a warehouse
management system can be more expensive."
A warehouse control system provides that essential, unified view of your entire warehouse operation. A single interface controls all material handling equipment for all locations, thereby
eliminating the islands of automation. It provides you with real-time information to effectively monitor and manage your operational processes and diagnose problems. Acting upon that information, you can make changes to equipment, staffing, and operational procedures to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase your ROI.
"Investing in a warehouse control system is really an investment in the company's future. By implementing an agile system that accommodates future market fluctuations, you have a competitive advantage. When your cost per order keeps rising, it's more difficult to stay in business," states Rich Hite.
QC Software (http://www.qcsoftware.com) is recognized as an industry leader in providing innovative and adaptive software solutions for order fulfillment and distribution centers. Their RFID-enabled warehouse control system provides advanced management capabilities for
inventory control, resource scheduling and order management. For over 15 years, their solutions have enabled customers to streamline their warehouse operations with the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry.

Is there a wireless controller/interface for a USB hard drive?
I have a 500GB USB drive in an external case that I plug into a laptop when the laptop is at home. Now have additional laptops in the family that also need to access the external hard drive. I don't have a spare computer to easily allow the hard drive to be a shared drive. There is a wireless router at the house and all the laptops are wireless. Is there a wireless or wired interface so that the hard drive can be accessible by the other computers in the house without the hard drive being hosted by a dedicated computer? Our printer is wireless and does not have to be hosted on a computer and that printer is accessible by all our laptops. Can a hard drive be done the same way? Is so, then what is it called so I can look it up on eBay. The external hard drive has a USB connector but does not have an ethernet connector.
Not easily. The hard drive needs a "computer" to host it on the network, whether it be wired or wireless (built in...). Some routers have USB ports that can be used to share an external USB disk, but you will have to shop around for one. Otherwise, you need some "computer" device to allow sharing over a network.
This is because disk file sharing all has some security on it, what to share, to whom, etc. Even "Everyone" is a security identifier in computers. Wireless printers are easier, because it in a one direction share - you print to it only...Others cannot see the printout on a shared printer - so no security issues, but disk shares, you have to control access in both directions.
