Tips to Install Wireless Routers at Home
Wireless router is a device used to permit the network access. The main advantage is; no fixed wire or cable is needed to connect the router to your PC or laptop. A wireless router is preferable today as you can bring your laptop to anywhere you prefer in your home. Now, you don't have to stick at one place to use Internet. All wireless routers come with a permitted radius for you to use them. Now, when you buy a wireless router, you will usually request the seller to fix it for you with a minimal charge. So, here are some simple guidelines to help you in installing your own router at home.
The set up is easy and simple. First, choose your own wireless devices. There are many types of wireless routers available in the market. The main difference is the speed and technology used. The recommended technology is 802.11g due to its excellent quality and is compatible with any type of computers. When you use wireless router, you must ensure that your computer support the wireless network. If not, you will have to purchase a USB wireless network adapter and plug it into your computer. As for the laptops, most of them come with built-in wireless networking. So, it is important for you to check first.
After preparing all the wireless devices, now turn off your Internet modem. Take out the network cable and plug one end into the modem and another end will be plugged into the router's Internet port. Then, after you have connected both devices together, turn on your computer. You will notice that your computer is connected wirelessly to the wireless router. The router will then send signals from the modem to your computer for Internet connection. When you turn on the wireless modem, there will be a blinking light. It shows that the wireless modem is configuring the network. Once it is stabilized, you are connected to the Internet.
After all the external connections are completed, the next step is to configure the setting. When you turn on your computer, it will automatically connect to the Internet wirelessly. Now, open your Internet browser. For the first time using the router, you will be asked to key in the username and password. This information is available in the box manual. After inserting all these information, you are advisable to change them immediately. Remember not to share the password with anyone as people may use your wireless network anytime. Get yourself a unique network name. Different type of routers require different setting configuration. Make sure you read the manual and follow it closely.

How do i find out forgotton password or clear and reset on wireless modem/router?
I have an old sbc modem and a wireless SMC router. I have a new laptop and cannot link to my wireless because it is asking for a key or password and i forgot the password.
There should be a small reset button on the back.
Hold it in for about 10 seconds, that'll clear it out.
